As April starts to wrap up, I think it is important to remind everyone about Autism Awareness. Autism now affects 1 in 88 children, and 1 in 54 boys. More children will be diagnosed this year with Autism, than AIDS, diabetes and cancer combined. Autism in the fastest growing serious developmental disability in the U.S, yet they only receive less than 5% of research funding compared to many of the less prevalent other childhood diseases. There is no medical detection or cure at this time. All of these reasons plus so many more are why Autism Awareness is so important. Here are some great quotes about Autism:

Autism (with a capital “A”) to me, says that I accept my child wholly. I celebrate his differences and his quirky-ness. I advocate diversity. I try to empower him. I am proud of his successes, no matter how small they seem. I hope he holds onto the compassion he has in his heart into adulthood. I do not think he needs “fixing”. I am proud that he is my son, and sometimes I am humbled by that very same thought.
